Updates: Installing Ubuntu / Linux Distro On Your Machine On Different Server

November 5th, 2009

Our office in Manila, lets me use whatever Operating System (OS) I prefer to use. So since I am not comfortable with working on the Microsoft Windows, I asks my supervisor if I can use Linux/Ubuntu as my workstation computer system. Luckily, he permits me to do so, and since I’ve got my own original copy of the Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Live CD, I brought it to the office the following day.

So after I have installed Jaunty on my workstation, definitely, I need to do a lot of updates, like typing into the terminal the commands such as

$ sudo apt-get updates and $ sudo apt-get upgrade, I noticed that the progress is very slow. So I started to investigate, then I found out  / realized that our internet connection is directly connected to the United States lines. And so Jaunty automatically fetches all of the needed files for updates from the US’s servers instead of getting them from the Philippine repositories which is more nearer than the first, and to think that we are miles away from the USA.

So that’s what I can share with you guys as of the moment, see more updates here later.
